El Caló, an untouched cove next to the fortress

El Caló is situated at four kilometres from Port de Pollença, between la Roja and Punta de l’Avançada, where the military fortress of la Fortalesa (17th century) is located and where you can have a wonderful view over this coastal stretch of Pollença.

This wide sea entrance finishes on a virgin beach which is not very big, where a torrent flows into the sea, the sediments of which are the origin of this area. This beach is formed by gravel and big pebbles, and it is surrounded by limestone and scrubland on the sides.

The marine and underwater conditions are not good for anchoring boats in the surroundings. The boats will not be sheltered from the wind blowing from the east-southeast-south. The depth ranges from six metres at one and a half hectometres from the coast to two at half a hectometre from the beach on a rocky ground with lots of seaweed. The nearest port facilities are located at Port de Pollença, at two nautical miles.

The accessibility by car is easy until this wonderful natural environment with crystal clear water, next to the aero naval base, the deviation to Formentor and its beach. At this point you have to start a difficult walk of four kilometres length between the military areas that prohibit civil access. A wall next to the road can guide you until the surroundings of this stony area.

These characteristics explain that the beach of el Caló is very unknown in Pollença and not crowded at all.
