Formentor beach, surrounded by a lush forest of pines and oaks

Cala Formentor or Cala Pi de la Posada is an inlet in the interior of which is located Cala Gentil, as well as Platja de Formentor, the famous hotel with the same name and in front of its coast, the Formentor Islet.

The Hotel Formentor is internationally well known thanks to the famous artists and politicians who stayed here, as well as because of the important events which are organized here. Winston Churchill, John Wayne, Octavio Paz and others have been here.  The Hotel Formentor is currently being rebuilt.

This sandy area is very long but narrow and it is formed by very fine-grained sand of a very clear and white colour.

There is a very thick and green pine and holm oak wood on the headland of Formentor that surround this beach. The branches of the trees nearly touch the crystal clear water of the Mediterranean Sea on this wonderful coastal area.

The marine and underwater conditions are excellent for anchoring boats. But you are recommended to be extremely careful if the wind blows from the southeast, south, southwest because the anchor might move. The sandy ground is at a depth that ranges from five metres at three hectometres from the coast and three metres at two hectometres from the beach. You are not recommended either to pass or anchor in the channel built by the coast and Illa de Formentor because the depth is only one metres. At 3,5 nautical miles there is Port de Pollença.

The nearest town is Port de Pollença, 12 km away.

The accessibility by car is easy following the signs. You can also reach this beach with the public transport. The nearest bus stop is located in the surroundings and this is where you can park as well.
