FORMENTOR, INCREDIBLE NATURAL PARADISE

Coves, viewpoints and unique sunsets

The Formentor peninsula is made up of the last foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana (mountain range). Formentor offers many coves and places of great beauty. Right next to the Port of Pollença we can see the Punta de l’Avançada which shelters the port from storms. Between the Punta de l’Avançada and the tip of the Cape of Formentor you will find the beaches of: el Caló, Cala Pi, Cala en Feliu, Cala Murta and Cala en Gossalba. On the other side of the Cape of Formentor we find: Cala Figuera, Cala Nau, Cala Bóquer and Cala Sant Vicenç.

To reach Formentor you can follow the MA-2210 road. After the bend where the military airfield is you can see on the left the houses of Albercuix.

La Fortalesa (the old fortress), located on the “Punta de l’Avançada”, is one of the most emblematic buildings in the Bay of Pollença.

If you are travelling by boat, behind the Punta de l’Avançada there is a small creek called el Caló. If you are travelling by car and would like to reach this cove, the descent must be started from the bend in the road located at km 3.6. To the left of the road (towards Port de Pollença) there is a path which goes down to the beach.

If going by car a recommended stopping point is the small car park of the Mirador del Colomer, popularly known as la Creueta, where there is a rock-monument from 1968 in memory of the engineer Parietti, the creator of this noble road. From the lookout, built into the cliffs in 1961 and 232 meters above sea level, the view is breathtaking. To the west is the Punta de la Troneta and Cala Bóquer and to the northeast you can see first the steep edge of la Nau and behind this el Pal and el Colomer.

Behind the Colomer viewpoint there is a path that leads to the watchtower of Albercuix. It is a cylindrical structure, slightly conical. The entrance is through a large doorway which is reached by an iron step ladder.

During the Civil War and World War, this vantage point was useful because it housed an observatory connected to Palma by a telephone line.

Continuing along the road to Formentor you reach a large car park near the junction of the road that leads to the lighthouse where we can park the car. The Hotel Formentor is one of the most emblematic of the island. In 1926 the Argentine Adán Dielh came to Formentor, and after acquiring the land and preparing the plans, he built the hotel with a capacity for eighty guests, equipped with all modern comforts and suited to the important figures of the 1930’s.

If you take the fork previously mentioned, the road leads to the Formentor Lighthouse, located 210 m above sea level. Above is a small car park and additional viewpoints that offer magnificent views.

From the viewpoint next to the car park you can see the Cap de Catalunya and the Punta d’en Tomàs.It is common that people meet there to witness the spectacular moment when the sun sets over the sea.

Attention!
